Encaustic Paintings

When we interpret what we see in the world, some things will be true no matter how we feel about them: pulses of light and sensation; the feeling of bones moving within muscles and flesh. Some things are true mostly because we believe them to be so, regardless of if they live and breathe in the real world.

My art lives at the intersection of these two relative truths. On one hand, mindful, articulate and careful, and on the other, raw, visceral and emotive.

Two selves explore an uncertain future and a known past through the formation of shapes, textures and color – in a dance where I give in to the flow of ‘lead and follow’, a conversation without words. By progressively adding and removing paint, I explore how beliefs and experiences meet, revealing a portrait about communication, awareness and emotional filters, residual memories and the progression of time.
